Little Nest

I think I just found my new favourite breakfast place. After seeing Little Nest from time to time, located a few steps east of Commercial Drive on Charles Street, I finally walked in last Sunday. The place was buzzing full of neighbourhood folk and their stylishly dressed kids. (And these kids were in their glory playing with all the fun toys and games provided by the restaurant so their parents could eat and socialize with some semblance of peace.)

This peanut-free zone smelled great and the organic menu looked impressive. With your choice of eggs of the day, baguette sandwiches, soups and salads, I chose the “Little Nest Breakfast.” My famished friend, whom I dragged out of the downtown core, ordered the same. The food wasn’t delivered to our table fast enough, but our long, much-anticipated wait was rewarded with yummy goodness: baked polenta, roasted portabellini mushrooms, caramelized pearl onions, spinach-walnut pesto, whipped goats cheese and toasted baguettes. Every bite was delicious! “Are you kidding me?!” “Ah! So good!” “How have we missed this place all these times?!”

No doubt we’ll be back to try the legendary cakes, cookies and muffins baked daily by the owner and pastry chef, Mary Macintyre (I hear the baked goods are ridiculous – that’s ridiculous in a good way!).
